He was arguably Britain’s greatest ever tennis player who learnt his craft at The Brentham Club, and now a new junior competition has celebrated the heritage of sporting hero Fred Perry whose name lives on in the iconic sportswear brand.

The inaugural 2019 national championship saw young people from all over the UK play in U12, U14, U16 and U18 age categories, marking one hundred years since Perry first played at The Club.

The weekend of September 7th and 8th 2019 kicked off with a coaching clinic from Wimbledon Head Coach, Dan Bloxham and four-times Wimbledon doubles champion, Peter Fleming, inviting contestants and other up-and-coming players to take part. Contestants played first and second-round matches on Saturday, with the semi-finals taking place throughout Sunday.

The tournament rounded off with some very tense finals on Sunday afternoon, with winners in each category crowned Fred Perry Champions.

Across the course of the weekend 118 matches were played and winners in each category received a clothing sponsorship and tennis grant from Fred Perry, helping them on their way to becoming tennis champions.

It was a spectacular weekend for the Brentham Club, as also taking place were the Bowls Finals and several cricket and football matches.
