On 14th May 2011, The Brentham club celebrates 100 years of serving the local community in providing accessible and exceptional sports and social facilities.
It is a milestone that all members can be proud of, as can our forebears who both established and perpetuated the vision of providing community support and facilities to the inhabitants of the Brentham Estate and nearby Pitshanger Lane.
Originally, The Brentham Club started out as a community centre and was opened by a son of Queen Victoria in 1911, the Duke and Duchess of Connaught. The centre was set up by the Elders of the Brentham Estate and quite quickly, it expanded itself into the sports and social club it is today. In addition, philanthropic funds were made available to help individuals and families to build and buy their own homes. It is with this noble concept in mind, of mutual support for the greater good of the community, which we wish to celebrate our Centenary Year with as much verve, creativity and passion as existed in the beginning. This will enable us to launch the Club, your club, into the next 100 years with the same energy and vitality.
The Club, as well as the staff you will meet each day, is managed and run by volunteers and without their great efforts over the last 100 years, we would not have arrived at this landmark point, envisaged by the original founders. It behoves all members to ensure that this convention continues and that we remain modern and relevant, whilst upholding the traditional values that have served us well in the past.
Change is constant, inevitable and welcomed and with the inherent challenges and opportunities of running a successful and profitable club in such a competitive environment, we encourage all members to play their part, no matter how small, as it all adds up to a greater whole. And this not only includes supporting and taking part in the various events over the coming 12 months, but also in continuing to do so in the years to come, introducing family and friends to experience the heart beat of the Brentham Estate which is the Brentham Club!
During February, we will be issuing the Centenary Calendar and a list of the planned events so come back soon for more details. And don’t stop there, because if you have ideas on how best to celebrate 100 years of the Brentham Club, don’t be shy and get in touch with the Centenary Marketing Committee by either emailing Roma at secretary@brenthamclub.co.uk or call Kate on 077 6666 2217 to find out how you can help.
